On Tuesday evening, February 7th, Deacon Roscoe will lead us in a discussion around the biblical and metaphorical significance of light. We will once again meet in the church parlor. Coffee, tea and some home-made treats will be provided. Bring your bibles and a friend (or 5).
WOMEN'S RETREAT THIS WEEKEND This weekend twenty-one of our women will make the journey to Kenbrook Retreat Center in Lebanon, PA to enjoy a weekend-long retreat centered around the theme of God as master sculptor. We ask that you keep them in your prayers during this time of faith exploration and renewal.

EASTER CANDY DONATIONS SERVE TWO OPPORTUNITIES The Activities committee will once again host an Easter Egg Hunt here at Zion during Lent. They are asking for donations of wrapped candy to be used to fill the Easter eggs. In addition, this year Zion Lutheran Preschool would like to undergo a Lenten mission project of buying and filling Easter baskets for children whose families utilize the Hummelstown Food Pantry. The students will be buying the Easter baskets, but we would love the support of the congregation to help them fill the anticipated 50 baskets. We thank you for your support of both initiatives!
**2011 GIVING STATEMENTS AVAILABLE THIS SUNDAY John Long, our financial secretary, will be handing out the 2011 member giving statements this Sunday, February 4th. He will be in the narthex for all 3 services.
CARD SHOWER FOR ELENORA YOUNG'S 90TH BIRTHDAY A friend of Elenora has informed us that she is celebrating her 90th Birthday on February 10th, and we invite the congregation to participate in a card shower for her! You can send birthday wishes to Elenora Young at 108 Hallmark House, Briarcrest, Hershey, PA 17033.
FIRST COMMUNION INSTRUCTION Pastor Wayne and Deacon Roscoe will lead first communion instruction for anyone in the parish interested in receiving this sacrament. Over the course of two different Sundays, they will help children better understand this sacrament as the holy meal provided to us as nourishment and a means of grace. The sessions will be offered on Sundays February 12 and February 26th at noon. If you are interested in attending, please let Deacon Roscoe or Pastor Wayne know.
ADULT FAITH FORMATION OPPORTUNITIES CONTINUE SUNDAY MORNINGS AT 9:30 A.M. The Closer Look adult SCS class meets Sundays at 9:30 AM in the Pastor's office. As our name implies, we examine select scripture in greater detail. Over the centuries word meanings and usages change, and this class helps participants gain a fuller understanding of ancient Biblical writings. Now through February our study will focus on God working in the lives of Joseph and Paul.
In the Library: Phil Susemihl will lead a second 3-week series (January 29 through February 12) themed: "Unchained Melody: Gospel Encounters From the Pew and Beyond." "Let those with ears hear," Jesus often said as he concluded a parable. "The Noise" of life can render us deaf. Despite "The Noise," the message can still be heard, in more places, and from different sources, than one might expect.
GLOVE DRIVE CONTINUES THIS WINTER - 27 PAIRS NEEDED TO REACH OUR GOAL We are getting much closer to our goal of collecting 200 pairs of men's gloves! We will continue to receive donations of gloves through the end of February. The gloves received to date have been donated to inner-city Christ Lutheran church in Harrisburg. Gloves can be placed on the glove tree in the sanctuary.
