Serving Others

The people of Zion serve others in many and various ways. Our outreach ministries and donations efforts are coordinated through the Social Ministry Committee, primarily for the benefit of the medical clinic and outreach of Christ Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, Bethesda Mission, Harrisburg, the CROP Walk, and the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank.

Donations for Christ Lutheran Church and Bethesda Mission, Harrisburg

A blanket drive is held beginning the first Sunday in October through the Sunday before Thanksgiving in November. Blankets are divided between the two organizations.

A hat, glove and scarf drive is held beginning the end of November through the end of February. Donations are given to the two organizations as they are received to help warm those who are without warm weather clothing.

A Season of Lent mission project is offered to collect basics. For the past couple of years, the focus was on socks which were divided between the two organizations.

Zion Cares and Partners with Christ

Donations of personal care items (toothpaste, deodorant, soap, razors, shampoo, etc.), over the counter cold, lice, and other remedies, are given to Christ Lutheran Harrisburg on a regular basis.

CROP Walk

Each year, the people of Zion donate generously to the Hershey-Hummelstown CROP Walk and join in walking at the Milton Hershey School. In 2019, members donated $2,012.00 to fight hunger in Central Pennsylvania.

Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank

Two blood drives are planned each year for church members and others to donate pints of blood. The drives are held on Sunday mornings during worship in Leatherman Hall, in the lower level of the church.
